Our client created a streaming platform that offers access to live sports events for a flat fee. The service is currently available in over 200 countries around the world.

The platform offers over 800 sports events per year. Customers can watch live football matches in the best leagues in Europe (Premier League, Bundesliga, La Liga), international competitions (World and European Championships), as well as all the most important games in such disciplines as basketball, American football, baseball, ice hockey, tennis, and combat sports.

Responsibilities:

  • Technical Leadership: Oversee the design and development of the video player architecture across Android, iOS, and tvOS platforms.
  • Team Management: Recruit, support, and lead a team of software engineers while cultivating a culture that values innovation and high performance.
  • Project Execution: Manage feature rollout, resource planning, and estimation efforts to ensure timely and efficient delivery of development milestones.
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Work closely with Product, UX/UI, QA, and Streaming & Playback teams to elevate video quality and user satisfaction.
  • Performance Tuning: Guarantee smooth, low-latency playback across all supported devices.
  • Scalability & Reliability: Enhance the resilience of the video player by refining error handling, buffering mechanisms, and adaptive bitrate streaming strategies in coordination with the Playback team.
  • Streaming Quality Monitoring: Track and analyze key streaming metrics such as startup time, rebuffering frequency, latency, and error rates to ensure optimal playback performance.
  • Technology Exploration: Stay up-to-date with industry advancements and incorporate new playback technologies, codecs, and innovations.
  • Quality Assurance: Define and implement standards for testing, performance monitoring, and debugging of playback-related issues.
  • Security & Compliance: Ensure adherence to DRM requirements, content protection protocols, and security best practices across platforms.
  • Stakeholder Communication: Clearly convey technical plans, updates, and progress to internal stakeholders.

Requirements:

  • 6+ years of software development experience, with at least 3 years in a leadership or management role.
  • Strong background in video streaming technologies (e.g., HLS, DASH, DRM, CDN, Adaptive Bitrate Streaming).
  • Practical experience with media players such as ExoPlayer (Android), AVPlayer (iOS/tvOS), or custom-built solutions.
  • Proficient in native app development using Kotlin (Android), Swift (iOS/tvOS), and media-related cross-platform frameworks.
  • Solid understanding of media codecs and encoding standards.
  • Skilled in debugging, profiling, and optimizing media playback applications.
  • Familiarity with Agile workflows, CI/CD pipelines, and cloud-based video streaming architectures.
  • Strong analytical thinking, decision-making abilities, and communication skills.
